Booking with Joey Travel is designed to be straightforward, whether you’re planning weeks ahead or deciding to move on tomorrow morning. Joey operates a hop-on hop-off bus service along Australia’s East Coast between Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Noosa and Rainbow Beach, and the booking process reflects the same flexible approach as the travel itself. You don’t need to lock in every date upfront. You buy a pass, and when you’re ready to move, you book your seat.

Step 1: Choose Your Pass or Package

The first decision is whether you want a standalone pass or an all-inclusive package. Joey’s passes come in 1-trip, 3-trip and 6-trip options, each giving you a set number of route legs to use whenever you’re ready. Each trip covers one destination to the next, so Byron Bay to Noosa counts as one trip. If you want accommodation and activities taken care of as well, Joey’s East Coast packages bundle a 6-trip pass with hostel stays and major experiences like a Byron Bay surf lesson or a K’gari 4WD tour into one upfront price. The 8 Day Adventure starts from $1,799, the 11 Day Adventure from $2,299 and the 11 Day Premium from $2,399. If you’re not sure which pass covers your planned route, the Joey website breaks down every leg so you can work it out before you buy.

Step 2: Buy Your Pass at joeytravel.com.au

Once you’ve decided on the right option, head to joeytravel.com.au to purchase. Booking is done through Joey’s web app, which means no third-party platform and no booking fees stacked on top. If you have any questions before committing, or you want help figuring out which pass or package suits your trip, you can reach the team directly at [email protected]. Joey is a small, owner-operated service, so you’re talking to people who actually know the route. Joey also run a number of day trips to Buderim Waterfalls and the Australia Zoo from Noosa.

Step 3: Reserve Your Seat for Each Leg

Buying a pass doesn’t automatically reserve you onto every bus. When you’re ready to travel a specific leg, log into the Joey web app, choose your next destination and book your seat for that departure. This is what makes the hop-on hop-off model flexible. You’re not tied to a rigid schedule set months in advance. If you decide to spend an extra night in Noosa, you just book the next available departure when you’re actually ready to go. East Coast packages have set departure days from Brisbane (Thursdays for the 8-day, Saturdays for the 11-day and Fridays for the 11-day Premium), so if you’re starting from a package those dates anchor your trip.

What Happens on the Day

Joey runs daily pickups from key hostel and town centre locations across the route. In Noosa, for example, the bus picks up from Bounce Hostel and Noosa Heads before heading south. Your confirmation will include the pickup point and time for your leg. The buses are small and social by design, which means you’re travelling with other backpackers doing the same route rather than packed onto a coach with 50 strangers. If anything changes or you need to adjust a booking, the easiest way to sort it is through [email protected] or via Joey’s Instagram.
