Ever wanted a job that actually feels like part of your trip? JOEY Travel is looking for its next marketing intern, and we’re not doing a boring application form. We want to see who you are, so we’re asking you to show us.

If you’ve got a phone, a bit of personality and a love for backpacker travel along Australia’s east coast, this one’s for you.

What is the JOEY Internship?

The JOEY Internship is a two month paid marketing role with JOEY Travel, the hop-on hop-off bus connecting Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Noosa and Rainbow Beach. Instead of sifting through CVs, we’re running it as an open call. You post a video, we watch it, and the best applicant gets the job.

The internship runs from 17th August to 30th October 2026, and it comes with more than just a job title.

What you get if you win

  • A two and a half month paid marketing internship with JOEY Travel
  • Real work on real campaigns, not coffee runs
  • An 11 day custom JOEY Travel package along the east coast
  • Hands on experience across content, social and community
  • A front row seat at a fast growing Aussie travel brand

If you’re weighing this up against other backpacker jobs on the coast, check out how JOEY works to get a feel for the brand before you apply.

How to Enter

Getting in the running is simple:

  1. Film a one minute video telling us why you’d be a great fit for the JOEY marketing internship. Show us your personality, not just your resume.
  2. Post it to Instagram Reels, TikTok or YouTube Shorts. Tag @JOEYTravel and use the hashtag #JoinJoey so we can find your entry.
  3. Submit your details on our Work With Us page once your video is live, so we’ve got your application on record.

Head to the Work With Us page to fill in the internship form after you’ve posted. That’s how we match your video to your application, so don’t skip this step.

Tips for a standout entry

  • Film somewhere that shows off the east coast, a beach, a hostel, a bus stop, wherever feels like you
  • Keep it real. We’d rather see a genuine one take video than an overproduced ad
  • Tell us what you’d actually bring to the team, whether that’s content, community or ideas
  • Don’t forget the hashtag #JoinJoey.

Why JOEY Is Different

JOEY isn’t a big corporate coach operator. We’re a small, community driven crew building something new along the east coast, and this internship is designed to reflect that. You’ll get real responsibility from day one, work directly with the founding team, and help shape how thousands of backpackers experience this stretch of coastline.

Who Should Apply

The JOEY Internship suits independent travellers aged 18 to 35 who are already exploring, or planning to explore, the Byron Bay to Rainbow Beach corridor. You don’t need a marketing degree. You need curiosity, a phone camera and a genuine interest in how a travel brand works day to day.

Past team members have worked on everything from social content to partnerships, so if you’re keen on a specific area, tell us in your video. Curious about the kind of travel days you’d be helping promote? Our Noosa travel guide is a good starting point.
